Decorah community Featured on Iowa ABD Trucks
Ankeny, IA February, 1, 2012
This winter, Iowa’s highways and interstates will be filled with new artwork featuring communities across the state as additional Iowa Great Places are featured on Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division (ABD) tractor-trailers.
The ABD is partnering with the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Iowa Great Places program once again to create new semi-tractor trailer wraps. These wraps, highlighting seven regions of Iowa, are in addition to the other nine communities already featured on ABD trucks.
The Decorah trailer will make its debut across Iowa this week. The graphics feature a panoramic view of the community, outdoor activities, festivals, and events available throughout the year. This trailer travels 900 miles statewide per week, spending over 1,700 hours on the road annually.

“The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division is thrilled to have partnered again with Iowa Great Places to highlight and support these communities featured on our trailers,” ABD Administrator Stephen Larson said. “These mobile advertisements publicize attractions and highlight what Iowa has to offer.”
The Charles City, Valley Junction and Davenport trailers made their debuts late last year. Appanoose County, Council Bluffs and Perry will also have images of their communities featured on ABD trucks in the coming months. These trucks deliver liquor to licensees and travel many miles across Iowa to do so. Each trailer is designed by graphic artists of that district and illustrates what the area has to offer, as well as why it is a great place to live, work and raise a family.
Graphics are made out of an adhesive vinyl 3M material and applied in eight hours by two people. These graphics have a life expectancy of seven years and value at about $60,000 each year for each trailer’s advertising space.
