Contact: Lynn M. Walding, Administrator 515.281-7402 / 515.229.7777
Cedar Falls, Iowa (April 26, 2001) The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages
Division, in collaboration with law enforcement officials from the
Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol, Cedar
Falls Police Department and the University of Northern Iowa, conducted
compliance checks at five Cedar Falls establishments Wednesday night.
The checks were subsequent to the compliance checks conducted by
investigators of the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division during the
week of April 9, 2001. At that time, 39 on premises and 17 off premises
licensed establishments were checked for compliance with the alcoholic
beverages laws and regulations governing licensed establishments.
Establishments visited during the Wednesday night compliance checks
included Sharkeys Fun House, Club Shagnastys, Tonys
La Pizzeria, The Other Place and The Stein. Violations found at
The Other Place included minors in possession of alcohol, false
IDs and credit tabs. Minors in possession of alcohol were
found in Sharkeys Fun House.
Administrative hearings will be held at the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages
Divisions central offices in Ankeny, Iowa to address violations
noted at the remaining establishments. The hearings could result
in the imposition of civil penalties or license suspensions against
the licenses held by Sharkeys Fun House and The Other Place.
No criminal charges were filed.
Lynn Walding, ABD Administrator, commended the state-run compliance
operation. This cooperative effort provides an excellent opportunity
for the Division and state and local law enforcement agencies to
work together to ensure a safer, better Iowa, Walding stated.
