Des Moines, Iowa (May 31, 2002) Iowa City bar, Et. Cetera, has agreed to voluntarily surrender its liquor license in resolution of a liquor complaint filed against the licensed establishment. Following an incident on April 18, 2002, involving "the use of an open-flame device in a drinking or dining establishment," the bar was cited for engaging in or permitting illegal conduct on the licensed premises in violation of state and local law.
A stipulation was entered into between the bar and the Iowa Department of Justice on behalf of the Iowa Department of Public Safety, the terms of which were accepted by the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division, at the close of business on Friday. The agreement provides that the licensee remit the maximum allowable civil fine of $1,000 and serve a 14-day suspension commencing on Saturday, June 1, 2002. In addition, the Iowa City bar agreed to voluntarily surrender its liquor license at the end of the suspension period.
"The settlement terms are a fair resolution of the pending complaint, especially given the potential sale of the business and the local interest expressed in favor of an expedient resolution to the matter," explained Lynn Walding, Administrator of the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division. "In essence, Et. Cetera has agreed to close its doors, effective at the close of business this evening, in resolution of this matter."
