Listing Your Product in Iowa

The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division (Iowa ABD) is the sole wholesaler of distilled spirits for the State of Iowa. The Iowa ABD operates as a bailment state in that title to product remains with the supplier until an order has been accepted, processed and shipped to one of Iowa's 460 + package liquor stores.

Presenting a new product for listing in Iowa's portfolio is a simple process. Suppliers must obtain an Iowa Distillers Certificate of Compliance ($50) as well as a broker who resides in the state. Suppliers must submit a standardized price quotation form to the Iowa ABD Products Manager who will arrange for an informal listing presentation to the Administrator and other Iowa ABD staff. The supplier and the supplier's broker are welcome to attend the presentation to support listing of the brand. Any information that the supplier can provide to support listing the brand such as advertising schedule, on and off premise promotions, listing in other Midwestern states and temporary price reduction schedule will aid in the decision process.

When a product is listed in the Iowa portfolio, no forced distribution is made to liquor retailers. Iowa's privately operated retail stores are free to make product selection and pricing decisions independent of the Iowa ABD.
